Calling all Seed Stage Startups in the Fintech and adjacent verticals to participate in the Alpha Startups™️ MyFintech Week 2022 programme.

The programme is held in support of MyFintech Week 2022’s theme of Advancing Digitalisation for Recovery, Sustainability and Inclusion. Startups working to provide offerings in these areas will gain access to key financial industry players, mentoring from experts, stage time on the MyFintech Week stage, and up to RM150K seed funding.

Alpha Startups™ MyFintech Week 2022

Alpha Startups™ is a programme to help startups accelerate through Design Thinking methodology. For this edition, 1337 Ventures is collaborating with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to organize the Alpha Startups™ MyFintech Week 2022 themed Digital Sustainable Solutions. 

We are looking for Seed Stage Fintech & adjacent vertical startups who has the potential to disrupt the financial services scene & digitalisation of financial solutions for individuals and SMEs.  

This will be a 2+4 weeks programme. Top 10 startups will proceed to 4 weeks of coaching to refine their business model & pitch, they will be pitching at MyFintech Week 2022 on Demo Day.

Who should apply?

Seed Stage Startups

Startups must have a Minimal Viable Product (MVP), already in the market for more than 1 year (preferably) and raise seed round. In the verticals of fintech, Insurtech, pro-tech or adjacent verticals.

Committed

A team of two to three members must be fully committed during the programme. Startups based in Malaysia with a registered company. Looking to accelerate & expand.

Problem Statements

MyFintech Week 2022’s theme of Advancing Digitalisation for Recovery, Sustainability and Inclusion
is focusing on the Digitalisation of financial solutions for individuals and SMEs

We’re looking for startups who can solve these problem statements.

  1. How can we assist individuals and corporates make sound financial decisions in the areas of spending, saving, planning and borrowing?
  2. How may we develop interactive digital solutions to help customers analyse their spending habits, strengthen money management skills and make better financial decisions? 
  3. How may we enhance the protection gap, increase social safety nets and reach underserved markets in the insurance space? 
  4. How may we build solutions that increase digital literacy for both individuals and businesses? 
  5. In a post-pandemic era, how may we build solutions that prioritise recovery and financial resilience for businesses and individuals alike? 
  6. How might we address trust, cost, budget and outreach barriers for the B40 community in purchasing and participating in Insurance?
  1. How might we assist SMEs to adopt productivity-enhancing technologies and subsequently improve business prospects? 
  2. How might we help SMEs explore digital solutions to access their customers through digital channels? 
  3. How might we help SMEs explore digital solutions to access their customers through digital channels? How do we leverage the latest technology to develop precision farming tools with AI, IoT and 5G?
  4. How do we build seamless, easy to integrate automated tools to track expenses and revenue for SMEs?
  5. How may we develop insurance solutions catered for SMEs and increase protection in a post-pandemic era?
  6. How might we create a framework or standard for ethical, safe and secure transfer and transaction of data, in order for millennials to safely interact with financial providers without the fear of their personal data being exploited?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The Alpha Startups MyFintech Week is organised by 1337 Ventures together with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in conjunction of MyFintech Week 2022.

The Alpha Startups My Fintech Week is focusing on seed staged startups who are in the Fintech, Insurtech, Proptech and adjacent industry. 

Startups must have a Minimal Viable Product (MVP), already in the market and raising seed round. 

Other criteria includes:

  • Able to communicate and understand English
  • Above 18 years old
  • Startups must be based in Malaysia or serve a Malaysian market OR
  • Startups must have at least ONE Malaysian co-founder regardless of the market served or geographic location
  • Only 25 startups will be shortlisted

Everything will be carried out fully virtual via video conferencing (Zoom).

There will be a mixture of virtual learning through Leet Academy, office hours with corporates/ fintech players & mentoring session with mentors. 

*The final schedule is subject to change.

This programme will be a 2+4 weeks followed by a live Demo Day. 

Shortlisted participants of top 25 startups will enrolled into the accelerator for 2 weeks of course & mentoring. All startups will go through a qualifying round to shortlist the Top 10 startups. For the 4 weeks mentoring it’s only for the top 10 & will be pitching on Demo Day. 

Timeline:

  • Shortlisted announcement of Top 25: 10 Dec 2021
  • Onboarding & Programme starts: 13 Dec 2021
  • Finalist pitch Top 10: 7 Jan 2022
  • Demo Day: During MyFintech Week 2022 on 27 Jan 2022.
